What is Botox?
Botox is a brand of botulinum toxin or neurotoxin. Botulinum toxin is used in aesthetics most commonly to relax the facial muscles to decrease the appearance of wrinkles. Other brands of Botulinum toxins include Alluzience, Bocouture, and Azzalure, all of which work similarly for cosmetic and medical uses. These products are known as neuromodulators.
Botulinum toxin is a naturally occurring substance that has been safely adapted for medical and cosmetic use. It is a neurotoxin produced by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. We use one of the most advanced formulations at the clinic, Alluzience.
How Does Botox Work?
Botulinum toxin (Botox) is a neuromodulator; When we inject a muscle with Botox, or another brand of neurotoxin, it temporarily blocks the signals sent from the brain, asking the muscles to contract. This results in a smoother softer looking appearance. Botox works best on dynamic wrinkles which are caused by muscle movement.
What Conditions Can Botox Treat?
Wrinkle Reduction: Botox is famous for minimizing frown lines, forehead wrinkles, and crow's feet.
Other Cosmetic Uses: Botox can help with gummy smiles, provide a subtle lip lift, and slim the lower face.
Medical Uses: Injections may relieve excessive sweating, jaw tension, and even some types of headaches.
Botulinum toxin is a well-tolerated treatment suitable for many people. It disrupts the transmission from neuro to neuro. It can be used on 99.9% of individuals, and there are rarely any side effects.
Results
You can expect to have wrinkles soften within 48 - 72 hours, but the full effect will be seen in about two weeks.
Most people find the effects last 3-4 months.
Side effects are typically mild and may include slight bruising or a temporary headache.
